A cruise that was an experience. Host Anne. The lobby area on this deck has a couple of shops and the main pursers desk. The coffee in the dining rooms was excellent! Everything from the convenience of food, to the cruise card for payment on board, to the friendliness and efficiency of the Frage Antwort Spiel Fragen, was great! After reading some reviews I was a bit apprehensive. But our interior stateroom was surprisingly roomy, and the boat was in perfect working order, and clean throughout. Golden Princess Refurbishment Prior to my cruise on the Golden Princess I had read a number of reviews about the ship looking run down, leaks appearing and paint peeling away. I’m happy to say that I didn’t notice most of the mentioned problems with the ship (apart from a few leaks in the theatre). Golden Princess will definitely impress you with her size when you first see her. She is enormous. However, once on board, Princess has done an excellent job of making her seem much smaller than.
Very nice room for you gaming types. This is the top level of the lobby. It has a perfume shop and jewelry shop. The Promenade bar is here also.
The Wheel House bar is here and is very "man's club" looking. It is very easy to miss however since its entrance is near the photo check out counter.
The photo viewing area gets VERY congested before and after shows in the Vista Lounge. If you want to buy photos, do it During a show.
Also, if you see a photo you want early in the week, buy it then. First, Friday night is a mob scene in this area and second, they pull some of the early photos and put them in boxes as the week goes by.
If you think it's hard to find your photo on those racks, just try looking through the boxes. Also, there seemed to be photo ops every night not just on formal night.
There were casual photo nights, black and white photo nights, and formal photo nights. Another attempt at getting into your pocket with extras.
Some of the photo locations were right in the middle of main passageways, creating bottlenecks many times. I don't know if was just us, or the photographers, but not many of the ships photos turned out very good.
We usually end up liking at least a few and buying them, but on this cruise we only found a couple of our 4 yr old that we liked and the black and white photos which turned out really good.
Finally, the Vista Lounge is here. It is the typical ship show lounge. Bad sight lines if you are behind a column. Again, get there Early! Deck 8 is the Emerald deck and is all staterooms, as well as Deck 9 Dolphin , Deck 10 Caribe , Deck 11 Baja , and Deck 12 Aloha.
Deck 14 Lido is the main pool deck. Neptunes Reef is the fully outside main activity pool located sort of toward the bow.
You will find the pizza stand and the burger grille next to this pool, as well as the ice cream stand. Nearly at midship is the Calypso Pool.
This is the pool under cover if the weather is not good. They close the roof at night great time to take the kids up for a swim , or when the weather is not good as it was during a few of our days.
Further back toward the stern is the Horizon Court. I had read several reports of the lines not flowing well. During the peak meal times, this was the case.
People did not seem to know where to go or what to do. The trick is to not enter the line at the first station nearest the plates.
Grab a plate and go to one of the other stations. Each station has it's own line. Move to each station as it's line gets short.
We used this method and seemed to do pretty well. Also, the tables nearest the buffet area fill up quickest. Get your food and move on back toward the rear of the ship.
There are more tables in the back as well as an outdoor terrace area that overlooks the Terrace pool which is back down on the Aloha Deck.
The Terrace pool is the one pool that is adults only all the time. The other pools can be used by kids. Get your rear-end back to the terrace pool or keep your yap shut.
Deck 15 Sun is next. This is where the health club, spa, and Lap Pool are located. The lap pool has limited hours that kids can use, we did not use this pool, but the swim against the current looked pretty fun.
The health club was well equipped, my wife used the treadmills each day. You have to sign up in advance for a 30 minute time slot.
If there were free group classes, we could not find out how to sign up or when they were offered. This was not the case on our previous Princess cruises and was a big disappointment for my wife this time.
We did not use any of the spa facilities, so I can't really comment. The lower levels of the teen center and the Fun Zone are also on this deck..
You also access the putt putt course from this deck. It is a little hard to find, and even harder to play.
Whoever designed this thing did not have a clue as to how to design a putting course. Near the rear of the ship on this deck is the game room.
It is well equipped and has some pretty fun games. The teens seemed to enjoy it as well as many adults me included.
This deck also has a large amount of sunning space. As is usually the case, get up early and get a chair. Please don't "save" chairs, how rude.
If you sleep in, you arrive up on the sun deck and see people "cruising" the decks similar to the mall parking lot at Christmas time.
Chairs start to empty out after lunch when the first wave of people are burned, so you can find a chair at about real easy. The teen deck was rarely used.
The kiddie pool was rarely used. Even after the end of the cruise, I honestly don't know if bringing your own beer aboard either in Fort Lauderdale or picking it up during a shore stop is a Princess "no-no", but we had no problems getting it all aboard safe and sound.
Our Stateroom Dolphin Pretty much the same kind of room you'd get at a Comfort Inn on land: not truly a suite IMHO , but the sitting area toward the balcony is absolutely great!
I know you can put up to 4 people in a mini-suite, but it would be tight. The biggest benefit to having a mini-suite: the bathroom.
Heard from many a person who had the standard bath that is was quite a challenge! Apparently the shower curtain in those showers has a tendency to get "sucked into" the shower and sticks to bodily parts!
We never took a bath in the tub, but it was well worth it for the shower space. We did bring a transparent shoe organizer to hang over the bathroom door and that helped keep the vanity neat and tidy and our stuff out of each other's way!
We could feel the separation between the beds, but it wasn't too bad. As many others have expressed, this is a completely open balcony to the rest of the ship.
However, we rarely and I mean rarely saw others on their balconies throughout the cruise. Yes, the balconies would get busy around sunset or when sailing away from a port, but otherwise they were pretty vacant throughout the day.
We felt like we had good privacy, but the openness did allow us to meet and greet our neighbors to the side and above! One of the nicest things about cruising that I came to enjoy was having the room made up twice a day!
What a luxury! The Ship Everyone has his or her own unique opinion about the Golden and I am no exception. There is truly an understated elegance about the vessel: yes, the "grand" Atrium isn't so grand as many hotels or resorts we've been to, but it truly does serve its purpose well as the center of ship activity.
The boutiques lining the atrium were very nice with decent prices although we didn't buy much except duty free liquor and a t-shirt. The dining rooms personal choice anyway , Purser's Desk, casino, photo gallery and much, much more are conveniently located just off the Atrium and made it a nice place to congregate.
We enjoy working out and found the health club to be fine, contrary to other's opinions. The ceilings in the fitness center are low, but a full wall of glass allows the place a great deal of light and air.
There were sign up sheets for the treadmills every day, but there are elliptical low-impact aerobic machines that had no sign up required and were relatively easy to get each morning.
Sure, it's not a full compliment of what you'd get at your fitness center at home, but we found the space to be well utilized. Pools Four pools on the Golden and we enjoyed them all!
Very peaceful and relaxing: no bars close at hand and no music to be heard. The Calypso and Neptune pools were the hubs of activity.
The band would play around the Neptune pool and plenty of deck attendants were on hand to supply drinks as needed.
Pretty much after , however, it was impossible to get a deck chair or lounger around these pools. We actually didn't see all that much "chair saving"; actual human butts were in chairs for the most part.
After or so, it became necessary to look at some other options for places to lay out, including the Sky Deck midship or toward the aft of the ship.
We would find deck chairs still available surrounding the larger-than-life chess set toward the aft, starboard side of the ship. Sometimes these were breezier locations, but fine nonetheless.
Dining We signed up for Personal Choice dining and did not regret our decision! So convenient to be able to eat when you wanted and where you wanted!
We would eat anywhere from to and only had minimal up to minute waits. However, the waits were never inconvenient for us. What was comical to me was that people would show up to dinner, be told by the maitre d' that there was a slight wait, be given a pager and then proceed to hang out in the restaurant's doorway!
I'm sure the loitering at the restaurant's door did not make a table become available any sooner for these folks! I saw many-a-folk too many for a vacation get upset at the maitre d' when a table wasn't available or if there was any delay in getting seated.
A real shame. We thought the food was excellent. A couple of the highlights: - Any of the chilled soups; as many others have pointed out on this board, the chilled soups are absolutely delightful.
Whether it was a sole filet, Mahi-Mahi or orange roughy, it was all cooked very well. I had read that Princess deserts were not exceptional, but found this to be otherwise.
Their mousses and sherbets were great, as was their ice cream. A couple of things we loved were the Princess Love Boat Dream dark Swiss chocolate mousse with Godiva liqueur Now, true to what we've read on the board, the beef dishes left something to be desired.
They tended to be overcooked from the order and the beef just tasted The Horizon Court dining experience was good, too. It was very convenient to have breakfast, lunch and snacks in the Court and they always had a great selection.
The salad bar was great every day as was their selection of fresh fruit: can you beat fresh pineapple and watermelon every day!?!?!?
They always had a hot carving board item and absolutely blew us away with their sushi twice in one week! The presentation, color and taste of the sushi were excellent!
Drink selection is somewhat limited in the Horizon Court water, ice tea and coffee if you don't have a soda card, which we didn't but certainly not a meal stopper.
We thought they were good, and in good supply! Heard so many negatives about the coffee aboard, I just had to respond. The coffee in the dining rooms was excellent!
The coffee in the Horizon Court where you'd likely have it with breakfast was not so good! Again, not a meal stopper in and of itself, but worth noting.
Places smaller than normal: -Small buffet with the same options especially at lunch not a lot of fruit, cheese, etc. Fortunately omelet station presents.
I spent months reading reviews on cruise ships visiting the Seychelles before deciding on the Pegasus for a family trip with my mother and teen daughter.
The photo provided on this forum of a sleek ship recently A review Best cruise ever. So worth the money as well. I am impressed by the level of service offered onboard the ship too.
The range of experiences is enough for most folks honestly and the food is amazing too. I simply booked the cruise to Croatia because it was one of the only possible options to go on a cruise and there was no single supplement.
Being Belgian the French language was not a problem at all. In view of the The Spirit appealed to me in many respects.
It is small, comfy and has many aspects of a traditional ocean liner rather than a floating resort. The crew was a delight.
I sailed on her in and prior to her We are belgian frequent cruisers and we couldn't wait any longer to cruise again.
So we did. After a max 72 hours pre cruise covid19 test at home and a new quick covid19 test in Genoa 50 min it was time for It was great, we felt really safe and looked after.
We covid tested 3 days before departure at home then again on the day of departure MSC's It was another year of travel.
And this year we decided to travel once more on an MSC line. We had been doing it for several years for the least 15 years or more.
It was delightful. It was the right size ship with My husband and I booked this cruise for our anniversary. We wanted to try one of the mega ships and we are glad we chose Harmony of the Seas.
Venezia Venice This was probably the port we were most looking forward too prior to the trip. We were not disappointed. We knew there would be a lot of tourists so we were prepared for the crowds.
The sail into Venice is amazing. You want to be at the front of the ship or on the starboard right side of the ship as you sail into Venice.
If you have a veranda on the starboard side, all the better. On this sailing, the ship docked away from the main tourist areas so you had to take one of the ship's water taxi or take a vaporetta local water taxi to get to the tourist sites.
This wasn't a big deal to us but probably bothered some people. We had planned a private cultural tour here the first afternoon through www.
However, upon arrival, we learned our tour guide had an accident and was unable to accommodate our tour.
We were flexible and headed out on our own. We may have missed out on a bit of the culture but we had a grand time exploring the streets and canals on our own.
The food was incredible from the gelati to the pizza, sandwiches and pastas. The first day we just roamed.
It was amazing to walk down an alley into a square with a spectacular church. Photo opportunities abound I took about photos in Venezia alone. The amount of Murano glass is amazing.
You do not have to take the tour to Murano to find plenty of beautiful glass. We had visited the Murano glass factory in Venezuela so we didn't feel the need to go in Italy.
We took a late evening gondola ride a must and then searched for dinner. This was probably the find of the cruise. We were walking from alley to alley looking at menus and finally selected a restaurant with what we thought were good pasta dishes.
To our surprise, we picked what turned out to be the best restaurant of the trip - Ai Leoncini. We shared three pasta dishes and a veal dish.
The ravioli in a tomato cream sauce was some of the best pasta we've ever had and we eat a lot of pasta. As it turned out, we discovered we entered the "back" door of the restaurant and when we left through the "front" door, we were just off St.
Mark's Square. Princess did run continuous water shuttles from the ship to St. Mark's Square but we also purchased a 24 hr.
Water taxis which are smaller, private boats are very expensive and we didn't see anyone using them.
On day 2 in Venezia we got an early start to see the Doges Palace and St. Mark's Basilica. Doges Palace begins selling tickets at AM we were first in line - a one time occurrence.
Escorted tours like those from the ship are allowed in at AM while individual tourists are allowed in at AM. I'd recommend bringing a map of the Palace from a tourist guidebook.
Posters in many of the rooms describe where you are but with all the tour groups you often couldn't get to the posters. The Palace was indescribable.
Paintings filled every room and ceiling. Amazing gold molding could be found everywhere. The palace contains a great collection of amor and swords.
There is so much here that it is overwhelming. When we left to go to St. Mark's Bascilica at AM the lines were enormous so we were forced to skip going inside.
While we hated to miss it, we were on overload at this point. We finished our visit to Venezia by doing a little shopping and having another calzone.
Sail away, in our opinion, was even better than the sail in. Andre Bottecelli played over the ship's loud speakers. Get a spot on the rear of the ship.
It is fabulous back here! There were not very many people and the view as you leave Venezia is unobstructed and unforgettable.
Athena Athens We once again hired a private tour guide here. The guide we originally hired had tourists the previous day that wanted him for a second day so we ended up with the partner of the person we originally booked.
As it turned out, Dimitri was a fabulous guide and driver and we couldn't have asked for anyone better. We got an early morning start. Our first stop was at the "original" Olympic stadium.
It seems a shame that they do not play to use it during the next summer Olympics which will be held in Athens. From there, we went to the Acropolis.
Without question, this was at the top of our list for sites we visited. An important note that I had read in other reviews - there is a tremendous amount of walking on very old, uneven stones, including walking up and down some steep areas.
It is very important to wear proper shoes here and be very cautious, especially if you have trouble walking. Words really cannot describe this masterpiece that sits atop this exciting city.
The Acropolis should not be missed if this is your first time to Athens. Our last stop was at a great restaurant in the Plaka. We could definitely spend more time here and would love to visit the Greek Isles on a future trip.
The people here were wonderful! Our situation here was a bit unusal. I had been corresponding with our tour guide Lale Kosagan for several months when I learned her 5-year-old daughter was scheduled for surgery during our visit.
She enlisted the services of her sister Hale who is also a guide. The great thing was Hale could be with us both days in Turkey.
She and our driver, Uhls, drove from Istanbul to Kusadasi the day before we arrived.
